ABOUT

Alex Van Clief was born in Miami, Florida, to Barry, a boat captain with a skill for oil painting, and Jeanne, a keen-eyed, empathetic nurse. From this union, Alex developed a passion for bright colors, a love for the water, and a fascination with people. As a photographer, historian, and designer, she seeks to incorporate these themes from her life into her work, using her medium to showcase her interests.

Alex has worked at various auction and art publishing houses, magazines, photojournalism studios and, for a short time, owned and operated a small award-winning made-to-order pie shop in her hometown of Miami, Florida. Alex has a passion for dinosaurs, snacks, and mid-century modernist photographs.

Alex earned a BFA in Art Photography from the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University, and holds an MA in Photography: Contemporary and Historical from Sotheby’s Institute of Art, University of Manchester. She currently works and resides on the island of Manhattan.
